Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is the use of red and near infra-red light to improve tissue healing, and relieve pain. This is a photochemical affect, and increases circulation and decreases swelling among the other tissue healing affects.

These lasers are considered therapeutic, or cold, lasers. This is different then the lasers used in surgery, which are called surgical or hot lasers. While the therapeutic lasers we use in clinic can produce some, small levels of heat on application, it is still considered a cold laser.
The highest level currently is a Class IV laser, and there are plenty of studies supporting the usage of this in the musculoskeletal world. Some of the conditions that have been studies in regards to laser include:

  • Tendinopathies
  • Heel Spur Pain
  • Ligament Sprains
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Repetitive Stress Injuries
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Diabetic Neuropathy
  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers
  • Burns
  • Sports Injuries

Laser can be used daily by your practitioner, especially with acute conditions. Typically you can expect treatment 2-3 times a week, with that tapering with improvement. Depending on the condition and how long you’ve had it, the about of treatments can vary. We see anywhere from 4 up to 12 (sometimes more) treatments. There is no pain with this treatment, only some slight heat.

Some people see a difference immediately, sometimes it takes a few treatment. It is important to remember that laser is a cumulative treatment, so being consistent with your plan is key! You can also continue all of your other treatments, including chiropractic, massage and acupuncture.

Laser therapy is a great, drug and surgery free alternative to treating many different conditions. Call 1-855-225-5692 to find a clinic that suits your needs!
