Unlock Your Body’s Potential With Calgary Kinesiology Services
At Optimum Wellness Centres, we believe that movement is medicine. Kinesiology is the scientific study of human body movement, focusing on how physical activity and exercise affect our health, performance, and quality of life.
Our Kinesiologists are human movement specialists who bridge the gap between injury rehabilitation and peak physical performance. Whether you are recovering from a motor vehicle accident, managing a chronic condition, or looking to optimize your athletic output, our Calgary team provides the personalized, movement-based solutions you need to reach your goals.
What To Expect On Your First Visit With Our Calgary Kinesiology Team
Your journey to better movement begins with a comprehensive assessment. We don’t just look at where it hurts; we look at how you move.
- Comprehensive History: We’ll discuss your medical history, current injuries, physical activity levels, and specific wellness goals.
- Functional Movement Screening: Your Kinesiologist will guide you through a series of movements to assess your range of motion, stability, flexibility, and muscular imbalances.
- Strength and Postural Assessment: We evaluate your posture and strength to identify the “root cause” of your physical limitations.
- Goal Setting: Together, we define what success looks like for you—whether that’s playing with your grandkids pain-free or hitting a new personal best in the gym.
Kinesiology Recommendation for Care
No two bodies are the same, which is why our care plans are entirely bespoke. Depending on your assessment, your Kinesiologist may recommend:
-
Active Rehabilitation: A progressive exercise program designed to restore function after an injury.
-
Corrective Exercise: Targeted movements to fix postural issues and muscle imbalances that lead to chronic pain.
-
Sport-Specific Conditioning: Training tailored to the biomechanical demands of your specific sport or hobby.
-
Coaching: Guidance on ergonomics, physical activity levels, and habits to support long-term health.
When Should You See a Calgary Registered Kinesiologist?
You don’t need to be a professional athlete to benefit from Kinesiology. Consider booking an appointment if:
-
You are recovering from an injury: If you’ve finished acute physiotherapy but still feel “weak” or “unstable,” Kinesiology is the next step.
-
Dealing with chronic pain: Does your back, neck, or knees ache during daily tasks? We can help change the movement patterns causing that stress.
-
You want to prevent future injuries: Pre-habilitation is key to staying active as you age.
-
Need guidance starting an exercise routine: If you’re unsure how to exercise safely with a medical condition (like diabetes or heart disease), our experts provide a safe roadmap.

Calgary Kinesiology Care FAQs
Is Kinesiology covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefit plans in Alberta cover Kinesiology. We recommend checking with your specific provider. We also work closely with motor vehicle accident (MVA) insurance claims.
How is a Kinesiologist different from a Physiotherapist?
While both focus on recovery, Physiotherapists often use “passive” treatments (like manual therapy or dry needling) to treat acute pain. Kinesiologists focus on “active” treatment, using exercise and movement mechanics to build strength and prevent the injury from returning. They often work collaboratively with physiotherapy.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear comfortable, athletic clothing and supportive footwear. We will be asking you to move, stretch, and perform basic exercises.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
In most cases, you do not need a referral to see a Kinesiologist, though some insurance companies may require one for reimbursement.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Jackie Fairbourn for over 8 years and I highly recommend her as an amazingly gifted healing facilitator. She continues to impress me with her openness to adding gentle healing approaches to her extensive chiropractic skill set. Lately I have particularly enjoyed the tension-relieving benefits resulting from receiving Body Code, Emotional Code and now, Network Care. I appreciate her calm, informed and intuitive healing support.

I was referred by a friend to Jency Henry Physiotherapist at Macleod trail Optimum for my back pain. She is amazing, she knows what she is doing. She was explaining during the assessment and treatment session about what are my issues and what needs to be treated or taken care. I was very satisfied about her approach in treating my pain. I came to understand about my body better like my weakness and tightness. I feel very light as if most of my weight has been off from my back after my session.

Just have to thank Dr. Nina!!! The chiropractic care I receive is outstanding and with such precision and creativity! I have an autoimmune condition called Scleroderma which causes extreme mis-alignment and muscle/joint pain. After an adjustment I feel amazing and helps me to cope with the symtoms so I don’t have to take pharmaceuticals that often. Also, I notice my low blood pressure is back to normal since I have been seeing Dr. Nina. I am so relieved I can start up my adjustments again. I have referred my nieces, my sister, and my friend and they all are of the same opinion!! Dr. Nina is my Chiropractor for life!!!

I highly recommend Nicole, I had my first massage with her today and it was very relaxing and took a lot of the stress out of my body from the last few months. I felt very comfortable with Nicole, she is easy going, respectful and professional. It was just the perfect combination of touch and light conversation at the right time. I will most definitely be going back to Nicole in the future.

Made the mistake of going to another provider based on them open on Saturday, what a mistake. Minimal relieve and care. I returned to Dr. Jamie Mulholland in Airdrie and what a difference. Hips line up, pain on standing gone, not hunched over due to lower and upper back pain, headaches relieve in the first visit back to Dr. Jamie. Won’t venture away again.
